2014 Year End Thoughts

What a great year for the Southeast Camper Dutch Oven Group. We had really great weather for the gatherings this year and we hope it keeps going into 2015.

Our group has grown over the last few years from 3 to as many as 30 to 40 folks joining us to cook. I’d like to thank everyone that helped make the Southeast Camper Dutch Oven Group a good time.

The Southeast Camper Dutch Oven Group was represented all over the country this year. We had representatives at the National Dutch Oven Gathering in Iowa, East Coast Dutch Oven Gathering in Pennsylvania as well as the Mile High Dutch Oven Gathering in North Carolina.

We already have several Dutch Oven Gatherings scheduled for the new year starting with our Chili DOG, February 7th and the NC VA 2 State DOG at the end of March 29th.

We had a large turnout for the Southeast Camper Spring DOG and plenty of food to satisfy any appetite.

We will be back at Kings Mountain State Park on the last Saturday in April.

Stay tuned for more.

Thx,
Dan & Katherine

2nd Annual NC-VA 2 State Dutch Oven Gathering 2014 in Review

We had a real good time hanging out with the IDOS chapter from Richmond, VA, the Old Dominion Iron Chefs. This was the second time we met for the NC-VA 2 State Dutch Oven Gathering.

Southeast Camper Dutch Oven Group and The Old Dominion Iron Chefs have gathered many times in the past, DOG’s, Cook-Offs and camping trips. We’ve gotten to know each other fairly good and talk about next year’s DOG has began.

We had a total 25 people including guest producing 16 black pots for dinner. The variety and quantity of food was outstanding and nobody ever leaves hungry.  The weekend starts off with a big potluck on Friday night where we meet the new cooks while catching up with old friends.

Most Dutch Oven Gatherings are at state parks making them a fun filled weekend of camping and cooking. When we are not cooking we are sitting around the campfire catching up on news and trading a recipes.

Our weekend DOG had enough rain to send most folks packing, but we endured and the 2 State Dutch Oven Gathering was very enjoyable. Most Dutch Oven Gatherings that have some kind of crazy weather, be it rain or fog tend to be the best cook outs because folks will focus more on the food and each other.

If you were at the 2 State DOG, please send us your pictures and for those wanting to join, stay tuned for upcoming dates.

Bring you recipes and gear for a fun afternoon.

See ya soon

What’s Cooking?

How do we know when its done?
We use the smell test.
When it smells done, its done.
When it smells burnt, its burnt
and
When you can't smell it,
its not done.
