The Mile High Campground is located off the Blue Ridge Ridge Parkway north of Highway 19 between Cherokee and Maggie Valley, North Carolina. It is truly up a mile high at 5332 feet.

The Mile High Campground is a primitive type campground. It has access for trailers and smaller motor homes , but more situated for tent campers. The campground sells firewood, but does NOT have a camp store or ice, so everything you need must be packed in.

The campground runs along a ridge with views of the Great Smoky Mountains that cannot be missed. The sun comes up on one side of the ridge and sets on the other. If you're trying to escape the summer heat this is the place to go. The sites are big and each has a great view.

There is plenty to do for everyone; Take a relaxing drive or hike the trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway, shopping at the outlet stores in Maggie Valley plus the casino at Cherokee all within 30 minutes of the campground.

I visited them at the end of July 2010 for the Mile High Dutch Oven Gathering. The weather was not cooperating, giving us low clouds and rain, but a few bright spots.

I highly recommend that you visit them. The owners are very nice and will take good care of you. I will be back again for the next Dutch Oven Gathering, always held on the last Saturday of July. The only thing I didn't like was the restroom shower facilities, they need to be updated, but other than that I give them a thumbs up.

Come see us.
