I'm trying to work it out to camp Friday night, but it may not be feasible. I will be there on Saturday the 9th. If anyone is interested in expanding their cast iron collection, or just getting started and don't want to pay shipping, I am bringing some Lodge DO's to sell. I will also have some cookbooks and Mair lid lifters.

Looking forward to coming down to Kings Mountain. As this will be my first DOG, I do have a question. Having never been to this park, is there running water and electricity at this picnic shelter?? I am just trying to plan accordingly. Thank you in advance for the info and look forward to meeting you all. Mark

Hi Cast Iron Cub,

Great to hear you're coming. The listing for the shelter says it has lighting, so I would assume it would have a few outlets. We know what assume means.

The check out time says 5 pm. We'll verify that when we check in. We may need to but things up a little. Last time I was there, they did not run us off right at 5.

This is what they show on their website.

Site Type: Picnic Shelter
Site Reserve Type: Site-Specific
Site Access: Hike-In
Hike In Distance to Site: 100
Checkin Time: 10:00 am
Checkout Time: 5:00 pm
Type of Use: Day
Min Num of People: 1
Max Num of People: 30
Pets Allowed: Domestic
Shade: Partial
Shelter Size: Small
Square Footage: 680
Lighting: Y
Grills/Fire Ring: Y
Looking For Category: Day Use,Group Site
Num of Tables: 5
Picnic Table: Y
Seating Capacity: 30

The hike in to the site is 100, 100 what, I do not know, but my guess would be feet. A shelter 100 yards does not make sense.

I'm ready to go, I'll be there at 10 am. I'll make a sign and put it out front of the shelter to help everyone find it.

This going to be fun.

Remember to bring your charcoal

Hi Dan , Linda got her work schedule changed so we both can come , we won't be camping but will be there early Saturday. It is a nice park we have camped there several times. There is a hiking trail running from the shelter area to the National Military Park which is in North Carolina (3 - 1/2 miles one way).
It will be good to see everyone, this will be our first D.O.G. where we are actually cooking . Randy

Hi Randy and Linda

Glad you're going to make it. At last count, there should be 14+ at the Gathering.

Hi Mark,

The shelter has lighting, so I would guess there would be a few outlets. As for water, If the shelter does not, I have a 5 gallon jug and will tote it in, but I would say water is real close by.

Remember we are primitive cowboy cooking, that is part of the experience. Let me know what you need and we will make our best effort to accommodate.

This is going to be FUN! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

Outlaw, Where are you? We need to think about a cold weather Chili Cook Out?
