I am the mom and we have only 3 in our family, sometimes we take a fourth camping with us.I only have a 10 inch dutch oven.I noticed that most recipes call for a 12 inch D.O.Does anyone have recipes for the smaller one?I'm interested mostly in main dishes at this point but plan to branch out later. Thanks Mel

Hi Mel

I happy to see you made it. Thanks for joining us. Feel free to search the site for recipes, there are plenty.
Any recipe you find in a cookbook can be prepared in a Dutch Oven.

Here's link to Cooking with Charcoals, this will help you with temperature settings.

Hi Mel,
Welcome to the forum.
To answer your question,
12 inch deep oven is 8 qt
12" reg oven is 6 qt
10" deep is 5 qt
10" reg is 4 qt.

Those numbers are for Lodge Camp ovens.

if you take a recipe for a 12 inch, a rule of thumb is cut quantities in half. Try it then adjust as necessary.
It has been my expereince to try a tecipe at home b4 I take it to camp where there aren't too many plan B meals with ya.

The first suggestion I give people who are starting out and looking for recipes is to look no further than your own kitchen. Pick a few of your own favorite recipes that you like to make in your kitchen, and adapt them to the dutch oven. That way you are at least starting from a position of familiarity. You at least know what the finished product is supposed to look and taste like ;-) Plus, convincing your family to play along is easier when it is a meal they already enjoy!

Casseroles or one-pot meals work great to start with, but really you can do just about anything.
